Climbing

bolted crags: Baunei, Jerzu, Ulassai, Villagrande Strisaili
difficulty: all levels

Ogliastra is one of Sardinia’s most beautiful and famous regions for climbers. The limestone areas of the Supramonte and the Tacchi of Jerzu, once thought of as two separate areas, are now considered by climbers as a single climbing area.

The mythical Aguglia, symbol of climbing in Sardinia and perhaps the whole Mediterranean, Jerzu, Ulassai and Osini’s finely-chiselled shields of rock, the busy crags of Villaggio Gallico at Baunei, the demandino and vertiginous walls of Punta Giradili: by now Ogliastra is a real microcosm able to satisfy even the most demanding climber, where’s it’s possible to find everything, and able all climb in all seasons and weather conditions. Even in summer, when it was thought to be too hot for climbing, the climber will find in the canyons of Ulassai and Osini the fridge that he or she is looking for after a relaxed morning on the beach.Ogliastra is a candidate, therefore, for the Paradise for the climber who’s interest goes from boulders to big walls, without having to ever travel more than a half-hour by car. An immense adventure playground in Italy’s least contaminated wilderness!
